I can't help but smile. You chose me. "I'm glad I get to be like you."
You squeeze my hand and make a sound somewhere between a cough and a laugh, and say, "Good thing. Because you haven't got a choice."

In the Archive the deceased are stored like books. It's the job of Keepers like Mackenzie Bishop to make sure the woken dead - called Histories - are returned to their rightful place and don't make it out into the real world where the Archive's secrets will be exposed. Once Mackenzie's family moves into an old hotel converted into an apartment complex, the Histories are waking up at a faster rate and she learns that something mysterious surrounds her new home. Mackenzie has always had to keep all components of her life separate - the Keeper Mackenzie and the Mac that her family and friends see. She now has to decide who to trust while attempting to solve the puzzle around her.

"The Archive" is a fast, fun read. Mackenzie and Wesley are vivid characters and Wesley especially jumps off the page. Schwab has a talent for crafting interesting, creative worlds. There were times I became frustrated with Mackenzie, but then again, she is a teenage girl and she is bound to make mistakes. However, there were a few aspects of the novel that I felt like were loose ends. What about Mrs. Angelli? How does she play into this? I feel like Ben's death and Mackenzie's relationship with her parents didn't have an ending either. Mackenzie is so overcome with grief that she wakes up Ben's History and he is then put back to sleep. I don't see anything become of this grief. I understand there is a second book in this series, so maybe my questions are addressed there. I still give "The Archived" four puppies because I enjoyed reading it.

RATING (out of five puppies)
